Narrative: On 7/6/26 Hardwick Police received a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle a 1997 BMW Z3 convertible dark blue in color, was taken over the July 4th weekend. If anyone knows any information about the whereabouts of the vehicle or who may have taken it, it is encouraged to contact Hardwick Police Dept.

On 07-04-2026 at 5:13 PM the Hardwick Police Department received a report about a woman acting strangely and possibly on drugs at the storage units at 154 VT Route 14 S in Hardwick. Officers Morris, Donna, and Sergeant Brunelle arrived and met Casandra J. Rich, age 32, of Hardwick, who was indeed behaving strangely. Rich advised she had consumed some crack cocaine, a violation of her conditions. Rich was cited to appear into the Caledonia unit of the Superior Court of Vermont, Criminal Division, to be arraigned on the charge and transported by Hardwick Rescue Squad to Copley Hospital to receive medical attention.

On 07-04-2026 at 07:30 A.M. the Hardwick Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Route 16 in the town of East Hardwick for a motor vehicle violation. This traffic stop resulted in the vehicle being towed and the operator called Justin A. Bashaw, age 20, of Walden, VT to pick them up. Bashaw arrived in his own vehicle and was operating with a criminally suspended license. Bashaw was issued a citation roadside and the other operator drove his vehicle from the scene. Bashaw has been cited into the Caledonia unit of the Superior Court of Vermont, Criminal Division, to be arraigned on the charge.

On 6/27/26 at approximately 11:16 AM, Hardwick Police, Fire, and Rescue Squads were dispatched to a 2-car crash at the intersection of Route 16 and Belfry Rd. Upon arrival, the occupants of the 2017 Kia Sportage were entrapped in the vehicle and required extrication. The operator of the Kia, Elaine Badger and her passenger, Betty Tulip were transported to Copley Hospital by Hardwick Rescue. The operator of a 2020 Ram 2500, Erik Boelens, was out of the vehicle and denied any injuries. The investigation showed Boelens was traveling north on Route 16 and Badger was traveling west on Belfry Road attempting to make a turn onto Route 16. Badger did not see Boelens’ truck approaching and pulled out in front of it. Boelens tried to avoid hitting the KIA by braking and steering the left but could not avoid hitting the Kia. Both vehicles sustained major damage to the front of the vehicles.

During the late-night hours of June 19th , an individual broke into an occupied residence in Hardwick village, and while inside stole various negotiable items and cash from the elderly resident who was asleep at the time.
